CLIFF HOUSE

A country house on the outskirts of Medellin, modern, luxury, relaxation, all while fusing Japanese zen essence with the natural exuberance of El Retiro's surroundings.

DESIGN BRIEF

The Cliff House is a luxury residence suspended over a cliff, designed by Mauryarte Arquitectura as a bold dialogue between engineering and landscape. Inspired by Paul McClean's minimalist sophistication and SAOTA's seamless integration with nature, this masterpiece redefines the boundaries of contemporary architecture with spectacular cantilevers that defy gravity. The design merges reinforced concrete, panoramic glass, and corten steel, achieving a composition of pure geometries and layered volumes that seem to float above the mountain. Every element—from the infinity pool to the floating terraces—was conceived to create a unique sensory experience, where the inhabitant feels suspended between sky and earth, immersed in a perfect balance between architecture and nature.

SCULPTURAL FACADE

The facade of The Cliff House is a minimalist work of art. Mauryarte employs pure geometries, overlapping volumes, and pristine white surfaces to enhance the sense of lightness. The contrast between sculpted concrete and expansive glass windows creates a dialogue between solidity and transparency, achieving a seamless interaction with light and the landscape. With a stunning modern pool that extends cantilevered up to 6 meters, the structure reaches out with an elegance that defies gravity. The horizontal lines emphasize visual amplitude, integrating the residence with the horizon. Each view has been strategically framed to offer infinite panoramas, while the architecture seamlessly merges with nature.

SPATIAL EXPERIENCE

The journey through The Cliff House is a choreography of light, shadow, and perspective. Mauryarte has designed spatial sequences that progressively unveil the landscape, from a discreet entrance to open spaces that extend seamlessly toward the horizon. The material palette elevates understated luxury: polished marble, natural stone, and refined steel create a balance between cool and warm textures. A standout feature is the wood-clad ceiling, adding a sophisticated warmth that contrasts with the purity of the white volumes, creating a welcoming atmosphere while maintaining minimalist elegance. The spaces flow uninterrupted, with glass walls that erase the boundaries between the interior and the ocean. Floating terraces reinforce the connection with the void, offering a setting where architecture becomes landscape.
